Just Right

Poets on the Page first mini poetry challenge for the year was this week. Amy Phelps McGrath led us through prompts that were inspired by a fairy tale, Goldie Locks and the Three Bears. Cold, Hot, Big, Small, and the final one today of Just Right. This is what I came up with.

This was a perfect moment on a hike during a sabbatical I took to write at a friend’s lake house.

What is just right?

Moments that are pure perfection,

is there ever such a thing?

I know that I have had a few.

Sitting on the beach watching the waves,

feeling fully connected as the words

flow onto the page.

Being with loved ones

and just for a moment

nothing seems hard.

Feeling the air on my skin

on a lovely spring day.

Chopping vegetables as I prepare

a meal for me and my love.

Watching my grand daughters laugh.

Just for a moment

everything feels right in the world.

Do you like poetry, think about writing poetry, afraid of poetry? Check out Poets on the Page for support and encouragement whether you are brand new, a seasoned poet, or returning to it after years of letting your inner poet sleep away the years.  When was the last time you wrote a poem?

  1. I love this Morgan. So true. Perfection is not some necessarily some grand idealization of life, but it’s in the simple, wonderful and beautiful things of the every day.
